The Wine: Solikouri Nakhshirgele Orange 2019
Sister's Wines Kisi Orange is a skin-contact natural wine made from Kisi grapes macerated and aged in Qvevri, big terracotta amphorae traditional of the country of Georgia. The grapes are farmed sustainably in the Alazani valley, Georgia.
The Producer: Sister's Wines
Sister's Wines is a Georgian natural wine project headed by Jane Okruashvili, the sister of John Okruashvili of the Okro's Wines. Jane is a political scientist by trade and has decided to join her brother John’s winery as a means to reconnect with her cultural heritage as well as to give back to her community.
The Okros farm with inspired natural methods about 7 hectares spread in different parcels in the Alazani valley, mostly comprised of local varieties such as Tsolikouri, Tsitska, Tavkaveri, Kisi, Kakhetian Mtsvane, Rkatsiteli, Saperavi, and Budeshuri Saperavi. Winemaking is just as traditional, with extended maceration of the skins, and often the stems, in qvevri. Jane’s first project was a Kisi orange wine, which resulted in a gloriously amber juggernaut of great depth, passion, and complexity.
